Vetting & Barring Scheme halted
As you are probably aware by now, Theresa May, the new Home
Secretary, has announced a halt to the new Vetting &
Barring Scheme. Although the need for such a scheme
was clearly established by the Bichard Enquiry, the problems
and questions surrounding its implementation have been many.
The Home Secretary said,
“The Government has made clear its intention to bring the
criminal records and Vetting and Barring regimes back to
common sense levels. Until this remodelling has taken place,
we have decided to maintain those aspects of the new Scheme
which are already in place, but not to introduce further
elements.”
We do not know, as yet, what future the ISA scheme has.
CRB checks remain unaffected. |

The Volunteer Centre is a voice for volunteering – tell
us your views
The Volunteer Centre represents the voluntary and
community sector on issues around volunteering, so we want
to hear your views. What issues do you have?
What help do you need? What services would you like to
see developed? We currently sit on the VCS Steering
Group of the Local Strategic Partnership (although this
structure is due to change soon), the Compact Board and the
England Volunteering Development Council amongst others.
We will keep you updated on relevant issues through our
Volunteering Bulletin but if there is something you would like to know, or
something that you would like to say, then please contact
