“I volunteer as a Hearing Therapy Volunteer which is
part of a scheme to provide support and information to new hearing aid
wearers.
My background in nursing showed me that many people
need this support and when retired I was able to volunteer for this
scheme.
I am able to choose the days I volunteer so this suits
me fine. The work isn’t difficult but its very rewarding-for example I do
about 2 half days of visits per month. It gives me huge pleasure in seeing
how happy patients are to get their hearing back and to manage their
hearing aid.
Occasionally I get a phone call from a distressed patient and it’s a really good feeling to be able to help them and if necessary point them in the right direction. For anybody with a few hours to spare this scheme is an ideal opportunity to do something for someone else.”
