I’ve been fortunate in life – having good health, a good education and a happy marriage and when I retired, I felt I wanted to put something back into the community. As a Christian, I felt it was important to do this in a Christian Context. I had been attending Bath Abbey for a while and when the opportunity to volunteer as a steward came up, I decided to try it out.
It’s my job to greet people, to answer visitors’ questions and interpret the place to them, historically and spiritually. I get a real sense of usefulness from my work at The Abbey and many of the visitors are really grateful for my input.
Volunteering offers me tremendous fun and a sense of fulfilment as well as support and friendship from the Abbey community.
