“I was between jobs and I thought I should be doing something useful with my
time. I knew that Dorothy House was a really good organisation as relatives
of mine had care from them. I emailed them and before long I was
volunteering as a driver taking people from their home to Dorothy House for
day care.
The time factor is very important as I have two children, work part
time and am studying so the flexibility of volunteering really suits me.
I have met some really lovely people and it’s really nice to know that you can help. I have built up a really good relationship with one person in particular. I find it humbling to see how people cope in difficult circumstances and it makes me approach life differently.“
