MARILYN IS A TEACHER LIBRARIAN AT CABRA COLLEGE IN ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA. SHE HAS FIVE CHILDREN AND TRAVELS A LOT. SHE ENJOYS READING, GARDENING, YOGA, WALKING AND MUSIC. SHE VISITS THIS COUNTRY EVERY YEAR AND VOLUNTEERS FOR THE AMERICAN MUSEUM.
“My Husband was working at the University of Bath and I wanted something
worthwhile to do with my time while he was working. I believe that you
should live in the present and make the most of the time we have.
I found out about the American Museum in Britain via the Volunteer
Centre and I started working there three years ago.
I get to meet lots of people and I made friends that I wouldn’t have
met otherwise. I have learnt many things – some of which I have passed
back to students in Australia.
I would definitely recommend volunteering to others – it’s a great way of learning new skills. Well worth travelling 12,000 miles for!
